Description
Jute mallow ( Corchorus olitorius L.) is a species of dicotyledonous plant in the Malvaceae family (formerly classified in the Tiliaceae family ) native to India. Its name is sometimes spelled “corette” or “corette potagère.” Another common name in French is “mauve des Juifs” (Jewish mallow). The plant and its leaves are called adèmè in Togo , nin-nouwi in Benin, éwédù in Nigeria, “Lalo” in Haiti, and moloūkhia (ملوخية) in Arabic (sometimes transliterated mouloukhiyah , molokhia , mouloukhiyya , maloukhiyah ). The dried and ground leaves are used as a spice.
